We were privileged to welcome the Chivenor Military Wives Choir on Saturday 5th April to Bampton. Organised by Edward Tanner and with the church decorated by Ann Trigg. Also assisting were Humphrey Berridge and Alan Woolley providing lighting and audio support as well as many very helpful stewards. Their performance was beautiful and poignant. Harmonising exquisitely, they left us captivated and delighted. Songs included, ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’, ‘Bring him home’, ‘Somewhere only we know’, ‘Wherever you are’, Coldplay’s ‘Fix you,’ to name but a few. 12 Year old Jack Armstrong-Williams from Morebath set the scene with a wonderful saxophone arrangement and then the wives performed some amazingly emotional and some very well known pieces. During the interval Shirley and Tony Rawle entertained, performed in their own tremendous style ensuring there was dancing in the aisles. Their repertoire including, ‘How Great Thou Art’, ‘I’ve got a brand new combine harvester’ and a wonderful medley of 60’s chart toppers. Many thanks to the Chivenor Wives (Twitter @milwiveschoir)
and all who were involved in many ways in this great evening.
